If you grew up in the 90s, you know that nothing beats the nostalgia of a Dunkaroo snack pack. But we’re adults now, and our cravings have evolved. Enter the Cookies n’ Cream Dunkaroo: a sophisticated, decadent, and completely homemade version of the childhood classic. These aren’t just any chocolate cookies; they are deep, dark, cocoa-rich bites paired with a velvet-smooth Oreo buttercream that tastes exactly like an Oreo McFlurry in frosting form.
This recipe has taken TikTok by storm for a reason. By using high-quality black cocoa, we achieve that signature “Oreo” flavor and dark hue without needing artificial dyes. Whether you’re prepping these for a party, a sweet gift, or just a late-night snack for yourself, these mini cookies are dangerously addictive. Get ready to ditch the store-bought packs forever—once you try this homemade buttercream dip, there’s no going back.
Why You’ll Love These Dunkaroos
• The Ultimate Texture: Soft, chewy mini cookies that hold their shape perfectly for dipping.
• Black Cocoa Magic: Using black cocoa gives that authentic, dark chocolate sandwich cookie flavor. It gives “Oreo” vibes instead of classic chocolate.
• McFlurry-Style Frosting: The buttercream is loaded with crushed Oreos and heavy cream for a light, whipped, and indulgent finish.
• Perfect for Gifting: These look professional in small containers and are always the first thing to disappear at any gathering.

The Recipe
Dark Chocolate Cookies
- 1 cup Unsalted butter, softened (227g)
- 1/2 cup Granulated sugar (100g)
- 1/2 cup Brown sugar (100g)
- 1 Large egg (approx. 50g)
- 1 1/2 cups All-purpose flour (180g)
- 2/3 cup Black cocoa powder (60g)
- 1 tsp Baking soda (6g)
- 1 tsp Cornstarch (3g)
- 1/4 tsp Salt (1.5g)
Oreo Buttercream Frosting
- 1 cup Unsalted butter, softened (227g)
- 3 – 3 1/2 cups Powdered sugar (360g – 420g)
- 1 tsp Vanilla extract (4g)
- 2 tbsp Heavy cream (30g)
- 12 Oreo cookies, crushed finely (approx. 135g)
Instructions
1. Make the Cookie Dough
In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and mix until fully incorporated.
2. Mix in Dry Ingredients
Fold in the all-purpose flour, black cocoa powder, baking soda, cornstarch, and salt. Mix on low speed until a wet, dark dough forms. If the dough feels too soft or sticky, add another tablespoon or two of flour until it holds its shape.
3. Chill and Roll
Chill the dough uncovered in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour. Once chilled, roll the dough into tiny, bite-sized balls (approximately 1/2 tbsp). There is no need to weigh these; just eyeball them for that authentic mini-cookie look!
4. Bake
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the mini dough balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 7 minutes and 30 seconds. Allow them to cool completely before dipping.
5. Whip the Oreo Frosting
While the cookies cool, cream the butter for the frosting until smooth. Slowly add the powdered sugar, tasting as you go to reach your desired sweetness. Mix in the vanilla and heavy cream. Finally, fold in the finely crushed Oreos until the frosting looks like a cookies-and-cream dream.
6. Assemble
Pipe or spoon the frosting into 2oz containers and pair them with a handful of mini cookies in larger clear containers.
Tips for Success
• Don’t Skip the Chill: Chilling the dough is essential to prevent these tiny cookies from spreading into flat pancakes.
• Fine Crumb: For the best frosting texture, crush your Oreos until they are fine crumbs. If the pieces are too big, it will be harder to pipe and harder to dip!
• The Black Cocoa: If you can’t find black cocoa, Dutch-processed cocoa works, but the color will be lighter and the flavor more like a standard brownie than an Oreo.
Storage and Freshness
• Room Temperature: Store cookies in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
• Refrigerator: The frosting should be stored in the fridge if not eating immediately. It will stay fresh for up to 1 week.
• Freezer: You can freeze the baked cookies for up to 3 months! Just let them thaw at room temperature before serving.
